As the Founder and Principal Attorney of John R. Gilbert, P.C., Mr. Gilbert prides himself on pursuing every case with tenacity and determination. Serving as an attorney for over 40 years has given him a wide range of insight into areas of personal injury and business law.
John R. Gilbert joined his father, Ralph W. Gilbert’s practice in 1973, when they established the law
firm of Gilbert & Gilbert. He has continued and built upon the tradition of client service and excellence in representation that has been a hallmark of the firm since its founding.
Mr. Gilbert maintains a civil litigation and appellate practice focusing on commercial litigation, personal injury, and products liability. He has tried cases before state and federal courts on a range of challenging issues, and has handled a number of significant appeals. Mr. Gilbert’s practice includes serving as counsel for numerous major corporations who are parties to cases filed in Brazoria County. He also handles matters Involving business and estate planning, wills and probate, in addition to business and commercial transactions.
In addition to counseling clients and litigating on their behalf. Mr. Gilbert is experienced in alternative dispute resolution techniques and strategy. having achieved favorable results for clients mediation proceedings. He has successfully mediated hundreds of disputed matters. He has also served the Brazoria County District Courts as an appointed special master to handle discovery disputes in a number of cases.
Mr. Gilbert received his B.B.A. from the University of Texas in 1971, and his J.D. from Baylor University in 1973. He served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1971 to 1979, retiring as a Captain. Mr. Gilbert is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and is admitted to practice before all Texas state courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Gilbert has served as a Director of the State Bar of Texas, as President of the Brazoria County Bar Association, and President of the Angleton Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the American Bar Association and a Sustaining Life Member of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. In addition, Mr. Gilbert holds membership in the International Association of Defense Counsel and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has been selected as a Texas SuperLawyer every year since 2004 and served as a member of the Board of Regents of Brazosport College. He is an Elder and Trustee for the First Presbyterian Church of Angleton.
John and his wife, Nancy, reside in Lake Jackson, Texas. Together they have four children and eight grandchildren.
